How to Track Affiliate Links: Clicks, Campaigns & Conversions
Affiliate link tracking can mean several different things: counting outbound clicks, preserving campaign context, receiving conversion postbacks, or reconciling affiliate-network reporting.
Track the outbound click
A dedicated tracker or analytics event can record which page, placement, or campaign generated the affiliate click.
Pass campaign identifiers when allowed
Sub IDs or other network-supported parameters can preserve campaign context into the affiliate platform.
Connect conversions where possible
Postbacks, APIs, or network reports may return conversion data that can be linked to the original campaign identifier.
Respect program rules
Affiliate programs differ in what parameters, redirects, brand bidding, and tracking techniques they allow. Follow the merchant or network terms.
Use revenue data carefully
Network-reported conversions can be reversed, rejected, or delayed, so distinguish pending and approved revenue when evaluating campaigns.
